Jul 8, 2009 - um, no. Sorry. History didn't work that way. Any reliable Clash or Taha biography will confirm that the Clash wrote this song originally, and that Taha covered it long after the Clash had released it worldwide. Taha adjusted Strummer's lyrics here and there to make them fit, and reworked the instrumentation -- but that's not the same thing as "writing the song originally." As long as his song carries the melody and the essence of the original, it's a cover version. A great cover version
