Jun 7, 2010 - it ok to teach the fondations of the dance i think that part of the dance is due to the rythme and to the lyrics of the arab song, so basically if you don't know arab language it will never be the same like the arab belly dancer , so i never meet or see an european woman dancer or whatever country who can rival with arab belly dancer. they have the groove ,feel the vibes it's in their blood, in their body.

Jul 23, 2010 - @dreamXwithXyerXheart Don't worry about it, I've been dancing for years and I still haven't figured it out. She's not raising her hip with her glute, she's using her knees. Contracting your glute makes it much sharper. You CAN do it with your glutes but it yields such a tinny movement. Considering she's such a wonderful dancer and teacher I wonder why she's trying to teach it this way to beginners.

I think it goes like this: when your right foot is in the air, you're moving the left hip...when your left foot is in the air you're moving your right hip. It's pretty hard. Imagine her turned around. Hope that helped!
