The u.s. understood that their would be a new race for world power post WWII. this was a way of asserting our place in the world as the new super power. truman didn't want to drop the bomb and in my mind was completely unnecessary but he did it under political pressure. this was the start of the military industrial complex and its influence. this was not a defensive maneuver that's just propaganda.

I don't agree with the title that the bombs were an act of terrorism or wrong for that matter. Its war. Sad deal but in my opinion it was necessary to deal with the mind set of the Japanese military. An invasion of Japan would have been a far greater tragedy for both sides.
