Added: Nov 24, 2006 From:oktahahorses Duration: 6:15 Without a doubt, one of the best known early AQHA cutting horses of all time. She was Reserve NCHA Champion 5 times, in the top ten 9 times, escaped death once when she coliced under Don Dodge's ownership and had to be rushed into surgery, escaped death a second time when she was left abandonded in a trailer, and escaped death yet a third time when her last owners, upon seeing her for the first time, wanted to put her down. The Jensen's attending vets convinced them to give her a chance. After three years, the effects of the hormones she was under while showing finally subsided, and she was in foal for the first time. Sadly, she only produced two foals, but both went on to found a dynasty that still exists today. Mar 5, 2008 - This is such a sad story for a Great horse to end up this way. However her two colts have changed the Quarter Horse industry. I proudly own several wonderful horses with these bloodlines, amazing horses. This is a great tribute to a Great little Mare. Just makes you wonder what would have happen if she would have been able to produce more foals. Thank you for this great video.

Mar 5, 2008 - How sad that your stallion was injured. Sometimes you wonder why things happen the way they do. I hope that you have many foals from him

Mar 5, 2008 - The strange thing is: His sire "Red Doc" had already won over 1,800.00 in NCHA earnings and he was injured...also a hip injury, and they had to quit showing him. He sired my stallion at age 20. I think his last foal was born in 1999. I guess everything does happen for a reason. Cathy.

Mar 5, 2008 - Have you heard of Lean With Me? He is a son of Smart Little Lena. He broke his hip and went on to win in many titles in Reining. I have a mare sired by Lean With Me. She is awesome

Mar 7, 2008 - great video...GREAT mare...we breed cutting horses and have a granddaughter of Dry Doc...they make the best mama's...and what an athletic little thing she is!...we always have Doc Bar/Peppy San Badger/Freckles Playboy breeding in our foals...and if they have half the heart this little mare had, they'll be going on to win...she was a fighter

Mar 8, 2008 - Another beautiful video. You managed to capture a whole life of a splendid mare with simple, yet touching lyrics. Again, I thank you for doing this(making videos) for these horsess, so that even my own generation, will not forget the greats. Also, I ride a grandaughter of Doc Bar, her half brother is of Poco Lena's line, and he's done well in cutting too. Unfortunatly, I can't remember his name. /Her/ name, is Magnolia Bar Shadow. Once more, I thank you and look forward to your next video.

Mar 24, 2008 - I have absolutely no memory when it comes to remember lineages;Ask me who my mare's grandma is...see, I told you. But I don't think I will ever forget the story of Poco Lena. We've all heard variations of her name throughout the line-up of competing cutters, but, I think my heart will swell in honor of this mare whenever I hear "Poco" or "Lena" in the future. Aren't our horses a blessing?

Apr 23, 2008 - Can anyone tell me anything about why they were abandoned in the trailer? Wouldn't you like to 'have a word' with whoever was hauling this horse! Not knowing all the facts, my comment would be ... The stupid son-of-bitch could of tied them outside the trailer. I'd hate to be this person when quizzed before the Pearly Gates.

Apr 24, 2008 - Speculation was that the driver heard about B A Skipper's plane crash, maybe over the radio, and feared not getting paid, so just walked away.
min54teresa Says:
Apr 24, 2008 - No one knows who the hauler was?

May 6, 2008 - You know they only got two colts out of her. I am a proud owner of her great great grand daughter. I'm hoping to breed her in the futcure. OK i have to say something. The ending is wrong she did not die in a trailer, she was put to sleep because her knees were failing.
momclip Says:
May 7, 2008 - Everybody knew that the Doc o Lena and Dry doc bloodlines owed their talent to the "bottom" or mares side of the pedigree. Stallions make all the money, but the dam is hugely important. It's wonderful to see a mare honored in this way. What a story!

May 9, 2008 - Wonderful video and song, and yup, I cried too even though I know her story well. I noticed Don Dodge didn't hold on to the horn while they were cutting -- wonder when riders started holding on ... anyone know? He sure had a great seat, stayed with her effortlessly. thanks for the video!

Jun 24, 2008 - It doesn't say she died in the trailer.
