Nov 2, 2008 - never. NEVER say that!!! he is the greatest man that set foot on this earth and i just hope and pray one day u will understand that, also that that DAY will NOT be the day of judgement.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - 1. 5:51 O believers, do not hold Jews and Christians as your "AWLIYA" (plural, PROTECTING friends=patrons).() Allah guides not those who are ZALIMUN (unjust). i.e. its better to have an justful non-Muslim a friend as an unjustful Muslim. And it the and its better to take God as a protector.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 2, 2008 - 2. 18:102 Do then those, who disbelieve think that they can take My slaves as "AWLIYA" (plural) besides Me? 3. 4:45 Allah is Sufficient as a WALY (singular protector), and Allah is Sufficient as a Helper. It's ok to have friends of different backgrounds. 49:13 Oh mankind! We have created you () and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. We are different to learn from each other. But we all depend on God. And God is the Helper. The everlasting Friend.

Nov 14, 2008 - I hate you.
Tentaclethulhu Says:
Nov 14, 2008 - Don't worry about it. I'm friends with a lot of practicing Muslims, even though I am an atheist and they know they aren't going to convert me. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't all be so friendly if it weren't ok. If you're looking for an official answer, though, I would ask an imam about it were I you.
akkilani Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - i gotta tell u 2 things: 1) "AWLIYA" means allies in arabic, so y didnt you translate it? you know not everyone speaks arabic 2) You say got is ur friend? Hes not your friend he is your GOD! and your his slave in the end... Still, Even though you can depend on him.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - Thanks for your hint akkilani. I am not like Luther- just translating AND making people satisfied with MY view. A single meaning can be conveyed by many words. In my English Quran translation from Madinah the semantic field of AWLIYA is interpreted with lords, gods, protector. Watch the roots W-L-Y awliya and waliy are made up from. In my Q. translation Waliy (its a verse concerning God) is interpreted as protector, by the way.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - I believe a good Quran translation uses to put interpretations into brackets- next to the interpreted word. So it may encourages people to read, compare, think and find out more possible meanings carefully. No one can translate a book but the author himself. All others would just interprete. So I accept your interpretation. Hope you can understand mine, too.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - Back to Awliya I would favour the interpretion patron. It conveys not only friendship but dependence or defence. It expresses hierarchy which is not denoted by the word allie. Of course, a friend in our terms is someone of our level.
korallentaucher Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - Thats why you have to put the determinator before it: THE- Protecting Friend. It would put the meaning of friend into an absolutive or eternal evel which is incompareable to Gods creation. Humans cannot achieve this level for they are non-eternal. There is a difference calling someone al-kareem (THE-Generous) or just Kareem (generous) or Abdal-kareem (servant/slave of The Generous). thanks anyway
akkilani Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - hello again. ur translation for waly is almost perfect! so i take u actually speak arabic too, here is the verse in arabic: أفحسب الذين كفروا ان يتخذوا عبادي من دوني أولياء إنا أعتدنا جهنم للكافرين نزلا so we were saying the root of awliya is waliy and waliy means some1 who takes care of something for example: وَليًّ الأَمر means a parent or a guardian in the mean of being
akkilani Says:
Nov 15, 2008 - responsible of... i think u get what im saying. Have a nice weekend!

Nov 16, 2008 - I don't think you even know how to read the Quran yet you're asking other people to read it. You don't even know how to spell the QURAN properly. Let me give you a lesson on how to spell it correctly. It's QURAN. Not Kuran. Learn how to spell.

Nov 21, 2008 - Asalaam a alikum=) I also HATE it when ppl think i am 'extreme' or a 'freak' just because I do the basic things that a human being, let alone a Muslim IS REQUIRED to do. It just gets me really mad when ppl prevent me from learning about Islam by thinking i am a freak just because i am interested in it and i like to practice it. every human shud be interested in wat they r. those judgmental ppl make me feel bad, but i wont let them put me down=). ALLAH SWT is by my side. wasalaam ur sis- aisha
