Aug 30, 2010 - @nomajdha: Sorry, a Lebanese father doesn't make a good belly dancing daughter, he can merely introduce her to the culture. And Lebanese men aren't famous belly dancers. Touch with the culture doesn't suffice either. To be a good belly dancer you need talent and years of hard work since early age (preferable before 10 years of age). I don't see why to say how great anything is if it's Shakira who does it. I hope she won't launch herself into painting or sculpting.

Aug 30, 2010 - Shakira was "raised" in Columbia, however her parents are Portuguese, Italian and Lebanese....her father took her to a Lebanese restaurant as a young child where she listened to the drums and watched the belly dancers....she then learned to belly dance. At school, the kids called her "the belly dancer girl", as she would dance every Friday at school a number she had learned.
