Unplugged 1996. Praying For Time - Words and music by George Michael. - Praying For Time - These are the days of the open hand They will not be the last Look around now These are the days of the beggars and the choosers This is the year of the hungry man Whose place is in the past Hand in hand with ignorance And legitimate excuses The rich declare themselves poor And most of us are not sure If we have too much But we'll take our chances 'Cause God's stopped keeping score I guess somewhere along the way He must have let us all out to play Turned his back and all God's children Crept out the back door And it's hard to love, there's so much to hate Hanging on to hope When there is no hope to speak of And the wounded skies above say it's much too late Well maybe we should all be praying for time These are the days of the empty hand Oh you hold on to what you can And charity is a coat you wear twice a year This is the year of the guilty man Your television takes a stand And you find that what was over there is over here So you scream from behind your door Say what's mine is mine and not yours I may have too much but I'll take my chances 'Cause God's stopped keeping score And you cling to the things they sold you Did you cover your eyes when they told you That he can't come back 'Cause he has no children to come back for It's hard to love there's so much to hate Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of And the wounded skies above say it's much too late So maybe we should all be praying for time George Michael- Octobre 1989 .

Nov 7, 2008 - What a magnificent version! Much better than the version on the album!

Nov 7, 2008 - Can't stop weeping at the morbid beauty of this song. No one can sing this like George Michael. Surely he was prepared by God Himself to warn the world of His coming judgment. Lord we pray not for more time but for Your mercy on the innocent.

Nov 10, 2008 - Steels124 I am with you. I have been commenting on her nasal screeching version of this song on Idols Give Back 2008. First time I saw this concert on TV, I was absolutely amazed by the quality of his performance. Carrie is just another here today, gone tomorrow singer. I had never heard of her until I saw some of the comments about her singing this song.

Nov 10, 2008 - He has such a beautiful rich voice. But it really messes the song up imo when he doesn't do all the notes that we are used to hearing! For me anyways. But my goodness, this song is such a parallel for the times in this country and world today. It speaks so closely to the times we are going through right now.

steels124 Says:

Nov 10, 2008 - Well there no more justice in the musoc industry anymore, which is why singers like Carrie gets all these fans.

Nov 13, 2008 - Is there sb to make me understand this song's lyric?

indauja12 Says:

Nov 13, 2008 - simple. harsh words for all the injustice and inequality of the modern times, cultural and social (these are the days of the beggars, rich declare themselves poor), you name them. about how people get estranged and alienated and how they lose faith in greater powers as a result of that (and it's hard to love, there's so much to hate, hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of). very mature song, i absolutely adore it. michael did more rocknroll songs, but one really stands out i think.

Nov 17, 2008 - I love this man, he's a f*cking genius.

indauja12 Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - I think that people are all so busy for the entire year with their problems that they never look back at those less fortunate than themselves, at the beggars who ask for pennies in the street, for the people who have no homes and live on the streets and ask to spare some food. And there are two times in a year when people suddenly catch this "be good to other people, give some money for the beggars, share everything that you have with those that don't have anything" fever, Christmas and Easter.

indauja12 Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - I think that "charity is a coat you wear twice a year" refers to people, who think that being only aware of these problems twice a year, are wrong in a way. Giving charity is a good thing of course, but being blind and not seeing the problems in everyday life should not be an excuse to feel good about yourself if you have only given a dollar to a person when you were in a church on Christmas morning but you haven't given a dime for a tramp when you were asken on your way from work.

capnordest Says:

Nov 20, 2008 - Carrie Underwood, eat your heart out!! Having just listened to this version again by George Michael, I hope and pray that you never murder it by singing it again in the future. You should stick to your country music, although having listend to your version of 'Stand by your man' maybe you should just go back to the farm!
